Were doing a similar model through the City of Manchester Health Department with our local police department to respond to wellness checks and calls that may not need judicial involvement. I love that combination of a health planner, epi person and health educator as well Erin!

@ Erin- What types of chronic disease prevention training is offered in Oklahoma for community health workers? How do CHWs access this training? Is there an opportunity to partner on developing training modules?
Anne Ganey, Minnesota CHW Alliance
57:09
It is critical to keep the character of who a CHW is an what they do-. The MN CHW Alliance emphasizes the CHW character - they come from the community they serve, have a shared life experience, serve as trusted resources.
Anne Ganey, Minnesota CHW Alliance
58:41
This is another role of an Alliance- involving CHW voices.
Lainey Faulkner - KDHE

Minnesota has a CHW Certificate in higher education- it allows CHWs to gain a credential and 16 college credits that can be applied to more advanced degrees. We have seen CHWs with the Certificate go on to become nurses, social workers and into public health.

Victoria Adewumi, CI Project/MHD, CHW,cMPH
01:07:22
Culturally appropriate messaging is a great point-We've seen a dramatic increase in engagement from our community members accessing health department resources/services (especially during COVID Vaccination efforts) and going into communities with these messages
Erin Turner, Oklahoma State Department of Health
01:07:27
We also have Health Equity Specialist that are looking at different programs and groups our CHWs can work with on education and communication. We currently have our Health Educators work with the Walk with Ease Program.
Lainey Faulkner - KDHE
01:12:54
Kansas is considering offering "optional modules" that CHWs can select to further their education or for continuing education. These modules will dive deeper into chronic disease topics as well as other important topics. This is being driven by our CHW coalition with support from KDHE.
Anne Ganey, Minnesota CHW Alliance
